Here now is the object of no one's desire.

At the weight of our ashes, the walkways

tremble under our feet.

Dream us a sentimental code

from an otherwise fast life.

Here now is the dark eye

of the smallest of gods. It flickers red,

consumes, and spits back. Receives us.
