The Mail Order Bride
This western romance by Diana Bold was a delightful surprise. I ordered it on a whim, looking for historical romances to read and review for eMuse and this one caught my eye. I’ll admit I didn’t expect much, I’m not a big western fan. But this book blew me away. It caught my imagination and it caught my heart. This is a great read and the characters so achingly touching that you can’t help but to feel for them, especially the hero.
Sarah Montgomery answered an ad for a mail order bride. She corresponded with the man she was going to marry and when she was sure he was the type of man she was looking for, someone sweet and gentle with whom she could raise a family, she left Georgia and headed to the wilds of Colorado. Only when she arrived her future husband not only didn’t know who she was, he had no need of or intention of taking a wife.
Luke Chandler awoke from a drunken haze to find a beautiful young woman on his door step telling him they were to be married. But when she showed him the letters he’d supposedly written to her, he knew what had happened. His brother. Well the last thing Luke wants is a wife and he tells Sarah so. After the war left him with wounds on the inside and the outside, he couldn’t bear to risk getting close to any woman again. Only now that she’s here, alone and without prospects, what is he supposed to do? As Luke well knew there were two kinds of women in Colorado, wives and prostitutes.
An excellent story, great characters and a lot of heart tugging charm.
