One Silent Night

One Silent Night breaks the mold for Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter series. Up until now we’ve been given bad boys who become good boys—or at least not quite as bad—by the end. Each reveals his tortured past and comes to embrace the light side of the force by the end. Not so with this book. But then, with leader of the Daimons, Stryker, as the leading man could we really expect it to?

Stryker has three goals. Kill Acheron Parthenopaeus. Kill Nick Gautier. And turn the human race into cattle to ensure the survival of his people. As the leader of the Daimons, those among the cursed Apollite race who refuse to die horribly at the age of 27 and so extend their lives by sucking out human souls, Stryker has a warped sense of honor, but he has one. When he unleases a power strong enough to kill Acheron and Nick, he sets into motion a chain of events that will force him to do things he never imagined, including trying to woo back his ex-wife.

Kenyon doesn’t exactly make Stryker likable if you’re a human being, but she does give us a good time reading about his softer side. Yep, Stryker has a softer side.

How do he and Apollymi really feel about each other?

Why doesn’t Acheron just save us the trouble and kill Stryker already?

Why does Nick seem to have powers the rest of the Dark-Hunters don’t?

What are the things we still don’t know about Acheron’s true nature?

Can the Daimons and Apollites break Apollo’s curse?

And what does it mean for humanity if they can?

This book is absolutely an essential read for anyone following this series. It is one revelation after the other; one “What?!” moment after the other. If you miss this one you will have one hell of a time trying to follow the series.
